More on TOOLS

The world's biggest jacob's ladder!
With exercises :)

TOOLS 4 CLIL

TOOLS is a European funded project, envolving such countries as Denmark, Spain, Lithuania, Ireland, Scotland and Portugal.

TOOLS is developing a free online tool, which will enable the language teacher to create media rich webpages for language learning. The unique feature of this free online tool is the way it treats embedded texts, at the touch of a button all words are automatically linked to our bespoke dictionary interface Multidict, which places online dictionaries in +100 languages at the user’s disposal, thereby enabling them to interrogate the text at their own pace and according to their own personal need.

University of Évora is a partner in this project.
The project teams will demonstrate the system strengths and make language learning materials for Arabic, Danish, Gaelic (Irish), Gaelic (Scottish), Lithuanian, Portuguese, and Spanish.

When bad grammar happens to good people

When bad grammar HITS good people, allergies occur ;)

Wiring a Typical British Plug

This was the very 1st experiment with English as a means to learn a content! Mostly I taught the students the language, but they also learnt the vocabulary related with a specific domain. They were very happy to learn the vocabulary related with their domain!

Why "IN THE WORLD OF CLIL"???

Being a teacher of english at the university I'm very often confrontated with the students' needs. They need to know ENGLISH, of course! But they have special vocabulary needs. They need to know how to operate with specific fields of expertise, but it english. That is, for the language teacher, a great challenge. Greater than I ever imagined, I should add! I do know english, but I don't know (or didn't know) the english used by electricians, civil engineers, librariens, managers....

Is this CLIL? It is a kind of CLIL. I would not dare to clame it CLIL, but it is a kind of CLIL... it is in the universe of CLIL - hence, the name of the blog - IN THE WORLD OF CLIL
